The National Order of the Arrow Conference will be held at Indiana State University, August 1-6. The National Order of the Arrow Conference is an opportunity for brothers from around the nation to gather in fun and fellowship to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and focus on the purpose that we share as Arrowmen. This blog will be updated daily as the conference unfolds. It will follow the conference from many angles, through the eyes of our Section officers, staff members, lodge delegates, first time attendees as well as conference veterans. It is our hope that this blog will get members who were not able to make this years conference excited to attend the next NOAC in 2012! Friday July 31 Almost 1,500 NOAC staff members are busy getting the IU campus ready for arrival. National Officers and Conference Vice Chiefs are busy leading the staff to prepare for the 5,900 Arrowmen that are expected to arrive tomorrow. Amazingly, 3,700 attendees have identified this conference as their first. After the staff show and an ice cream social, staff members returned to thier dorms to rest for arrival day. Saturday Augu st 1 Starting at 8:30 this morning, Arrowmen from all over the nation started to arrive on campus for registration. While staff was busy making last minute preparations, attendees settled into thier dorms. Later in the morning, Region Chiefs will started conducting orientation to prepare attendees for an awesome week at NOAC. After the contingents were settled, all staff and participants attended the opening show entitled FourLetters.
Sunday August 2 The first full day of the conference started off with a bang. All morning staff an d participants were busy with training cells, ceremonies competitions, and other events. The afternoon was filled with events such as the Section Officers Luncheon, the Signature Training Session, and religious services. Tonight, the National Recognition Dinner will take place, honoring 49 DSA recipients (One being our own Adam Heaps), 3 Red Arrow recipients, and the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Del Loder. Tonight's show, MediaPedia, will follow the dinner where award winners will be recognized. Overall, it was a great first day!! Monday August 3 Once again the day started of with attending training cells throughout campus. After training was complete, participants went to many afternoon activities such as dance and ceremony competitions, patch trading, and visiting the trading post and The Experience. Throughout the day the special events committee hosted the Very Important Arrowmen (VIA) events. Each lodge was represented by their lodge chief and the youngest member of their contingent; The future of the order. In the evening, all participants attended the Native American show, FoundingFathers. After the show Section NE-6B and 6A gathered in the parking lot for pizza, soda, and fellowship. It was a great way to end the day. Tuesday August 4 This morning training cells wrapped up. Unfortunately after lunch, the campus was hit by a string of severe weather so all outside activities for the afternoon were cancelled. Hopefully things clear up for the Grand Hodag tonight. Wednesday August 5 Founders Day kicked off with a parade early this morning. After the parade, the Goodman Games kicked off and it was a great time. At 11:00, the Founders Fair kicked off with lodges from all over the nation manning stands with free giveaways and games. Dinner followed and then everyone was off to the theme show TheOne. The show was a hit and really drove home the theme of the week, ThePowerOfOne. After the show, the Annual Goodman Gala and ice cream social ensued. After this event, everyone was off to bed to get ready for the ride home. Over all the week was a great time. On behalf of the section, I hope that we will see you all at the 2012 NOAC at Michigan State University!!
